Walmart Begins Testing Of Grocery Receipt Comparison Tool

Walmart has begun testing a program that will allow their customers to send Walmart a photo of a grocery receipt from a Walmart competitor. Within a couple of days, Walmart will respond with an itemized calculation of how much the customer would have saved at its stores.

Called the "Walmart Receipt Comparison Tool", the feature entered testing phase in mid-August in several Albuquerque, Chicago and Atlanta stores.

A demonstration video as well as marketing copy on the microsite, seeforyourself.walmart.com/receiptcomparison explains the steps:

  1. The customer takes a picture of their receipt from the grocery store where they regularly shop.

  2. The customer then uploads the image of the receipt to Walmart's microsite, along with an email address.

  3. Next, Walmart's "team of price checking wizards – figuratively speaking" will process the receipt and compare the prices versus the nearest Walmart Supercenter

  4. A link to the results will be emailed to the customer within 24 to 48 hours.
