Rogers, AR Walmart Testing "Scan & Go" Smartphone Checkout

A Walmart in Rogers, Arkansas, is testing a new checkout system that will allow customers to scan items with their smartphones and then quickly pay at a self-checkout counter.

The system, called "Scan & Go", won't enable shoppers to pay with their smartphone, but by scanning items in the aisles customers can quickly transfer their scanned list to the self-checkout counter to pay in one quick step.

The aim of Scan & Go, besides reducing checkout costs for Walmart, is to reduce checkout times and crowded checkout areas in stores.

Walmart's app already lets shoppers create lists, find aisle locations for items, check price or product availability, and print coupons.
