Loss Prevention Employee Murdered Inside Margate (FL) WalMart; Gunman Dead

A man suspected of shoplifting in a Margate (Florida) Walmart opened fire, killing a loss prevention officer before turning the gun on himself shortly thereafter.

Margate (FL) Police stated that Terrell Kennith Johnson, 22, fatally shot Lewis Jhon, a loss prevention officer, just inside the front door entrance at the WalMart on West Altantic Boulevard. The suspect then fled the scene on foot.

A police manhunt began before Margate officers, investigating reports of a second incident of gunfire found Johnson dead several blocks away, apparently from a self-inflicted gunshot wound the head.

Margate Police Department Spokesman Lt. Andy Zettek reported that a woman was also taken into custody after a search, but details remain scarce. Store surveillance video shows Jhon in a striped shirt, confronting Johnson just moments before the suspect pulled a gun on Jhon.

"The police department worked with him for a number of years, and it's a very sad day tonight," Zettek said. "Employees here are very saddened. They are grieving the lost of this gentlemen."

The store remained closed Friday evening as part of the ongoing investigation.
