Two years ago, Walmart launched “Store No. 8” as its incubation arm, designed to nurture and accelerate to market cutting-edge technologies including virtual reality, drone delivery and personalized shopping. While most of the ventures are closely-held, Walmart has disclosed a few names: Spatialand (a virtual reality company) and JetBlack (a membership only text-based service that caters to wealthy New York City moms).
Now, Store No. 8 is now looking launching another venture, though details of the new venture are very few. Among the requirements in the job posting, one that sticks out is “necessary experience with AR and VR technologies as well as building successful apps in the space,” and the ability to “manage market and competitive threats.”
Whatever the details, the new venture promises to continue building Walmart’s presence in the digital retail industry.
