In an effort to gain market share in the incredibly lucrative holiday season, Target has announced that, for the first time ever, it will be offering free 2-day shipping with no minimum purchase from November 1 through December 22. This initiative is in response to Walmart’s recent announcement that it will be expanding its 2-day shipping program.
The retailer said Tuesday that starting November 1 and running through December 22, “hundreds of thousands of items” will be eligible for free, two-day shipping on Target.com. In March, Target began offering the perk to its credit card holders or for those orders over $35.
Additionally, Target will be expanding its “Drive Up” service, similar to Walmart’s “Pick Up Today” service — where shoppers can place their orders online and have them brought directly to their cars —to nearly 1,000 stores. This is ahead of its planned rollout schedule, and is meant to combat Walmart’s new customer convenience initiatives like “Check Out With Me“, which is also being expanded to all Walmart stores.
